How a Web Design Goes Straight to Hell

A Taiwanese World of Warcraft player has “completed” the game, having scored all 986 achievements. To accomplish this remarkable feat, he “killed 390,895 creatures, accumulated 7,255,538,878 points of damage, completed 5,906 quests (that’s 14.62 quests per day, apparently), raided 405 dungeons and hugged 11 players.

Isn’t that losing?

But really, well done to him. It takes a lot of time and effort to do something that big, and a least he followed it through. Still, why anyone plays WoW is yet to be discovered

Recently EA/Dice decided it would be a good idea, seeing as lots of people had large amounts of VP* saved up, that they could increase the prices to around 10 times as much for anything you buy with VP, and you get the items for less time. Now, the problem with this is that now people who don’t play much have to play a huge amount have the choice to either buy BF* with real money, or play for around 5 hours a day to have enough VP for a single weapon.

Now, my problem isn’t with EA/Dice raising the prices; its the amount they’ve raised them by. Now, a 50% increase would of been pretty acceptable. Especially near the start of the game, VP are easy to get. But now the cost has been raised by around 1000%, which makes weapons and items almost impossible to pay for with VP, especially as you have less time to use these weapons (1 or 3 days, instead of 7 days or a month).

Also, they have now added new, bigger weapons to the store. So now F2P players cannot buy normal weapons and items, and can’t get the new one either.

Now this is what sucks.
Battlefield Heroes was advertised a fun, casual game where you wouldn’t get shot in the face every few seconds by “a teenager who plays the game 8 hours a day”. Which is exactly what’s happening. We are now getting solidly beaten by those who play lots, and pay lots. We cannot get weapons (or can only get them for a single day), or many items. Widgets (used for healing) are hard to get, so once we’re injured, that’s it.

So, solutions:

• Put the prices back down.
  If you want to raise them a little, that’s fine, but not by that much.
• Give us more VP
  Simple. We get more VP, we can afford the items
• Make all the weapons able to be got by any player
  Items, fine. It’s fair for the people who pay to get a bit more. But make all weapons equally affordable for all players. Sure, higher tier weapons should require a higher level, but not have to be paid for. This is the best solution if you want to move forward. The idea at the start was everyone could get the same weapons, but now new weapons and high priced weapons have made things very unequal. So please rethink that. The weapons and widgets should not cost a bomb, even if the customisation items do.

EA/Dice, please listen to your players on this. You’ve made a bad decision, change it back before it’s too late.

*(‘Valour Points’ being the points you get for playing, BF being the point you pay for; both are used to pay for stuff)

The silly, idiotic people who have such a small, closed view of the world they refuse to believe anything that doesn’t fit inside their world.

There’s a boy in my Physics class who is one of these people. Physics can often be quite fun, as we end up talking about random things, and stuff like evolution/religion.

But he is such a blockhead! He thinks that because I class myself a Christian, I am automatically a Fundamentalist (In this case, someone who believes every single word of the Bible.

And that’s my trouble with him. My view is that in the 2000 years since the events in the Bible, a lot of it has been exaggerated and elaborated.

Look at Robin Hood. Less than half that time ago, but the stories have obviously been exaggerated; so it’s pretty likely that the same happened with the Bible. Many of it’s stories were passed on by mouth before being written down, and that always makes the stories bigger than before.

And the Bible is less of a ‘Holy Book’ as it is a ‘History Book’. Several parts are just letters sent to people, so how is that something that must be believed in?

My friend the blockhead believed that it is impossible too believe some of the Bible, and not the rest. I explained to him that was like saying “Durr I don’t believe this part of the physics book is true”. The rest of it can still be true.

So that is why I’m so annoyed at people like him. God could come down, throw him out a window and he would still refuse to believe in a god.

So, rant over, apart from Blockhead things are going well. I finally got onto the MSDNAA network, and am getting Windows 7 for both my computers. I have also brought borntyping.co.uk, but nothing there yet! I’ll be moving my blog there sometime so thought, so watch out!

Nothing on them yet, but I’m working on it!

I’ve changed the theme and a lot of the pages round, and I think it’s a bit nicer than before.

Also, I’ve done a bit of work on the TGRPG blog, to make it a bit more presentable.

And I’m looking at where we could get sprites and tiles for the project. There seems to be a lot of free content out there, and I may be able to do a small amount of editing of them.

So yeah, things seem to be going pretty well for me atm. I’ve had very little homework, my IT project is really easy [thought fitting everything in might be hard], I had two lessons off today, cadets is doing well. The presentation evening is on Thursday, and I’m hoping [hoping] to get Sargent (I’ve been Corporal for two years, which sucks).

My blog is doing far better that I ever thought it would do, with 650 hits total in the last two month [An average of 20 EVERY DAY, and 456 this month][Actually that doesn't really work. WP gives me an average of 5 a day since I started] and I’m really happy about that ‘cus I never thought I would be getting this many readers [Although I have no idea who is reading this, so if you are please leave a comment!].

I’m thinking of getting a domain and server for it, so i can do my own themes and add stuff, and maybe run some of my own projects. It will probably be a free one using .co.cc and byethost.com, but they’ve had pretty good reviews and look like it will work well. But I’m not sure yet.

And two months till I hit 17! Yay! I’m slightly unexcited about Christmas, mainly because of the big math exam right after. But supposedly everyone fails it anyway and then does really well in the retakes. And I’m not going to start learning to drive when I’m 17, it’s expensive, there’s no way I’m going to be able to get a car, and motorbikes are cooler.

As I’m lining up several projects for myself, I’m planning on uploading some of my Lego models that I make [bet you didn't see that coming!]. And I’m probably going to do a bit of work on the TGRPG project, and of course, running this blog.

Also, I kinda need to set out some plan for when I update it, ‘cus like today I end up posting loads at once, and then not posting for several days. Any ideas?
